Organic Cotton

Denim is made of cotton, which causes great damage to our environment both in terms of water consumption (7000 to 29.000 litres of water for each kilogram of ready garment) and use of poisonous substances and insecticides. Cotton fields stand for 25% of all insecticides worldwide. In denim production there exists the potential to make a difference for the environment. Nudie denim producers are ahead on developing organic denim, both out of 100% organic cotton and as blended yarn, where they blend in organic cotton into the normal production.
The rules guiding organic production are followed in each step of the denim manufacturing. The cotton comes from organic production, and the spinning, dyeing and finishing of the yarn is also carried out according to ecological procedures. Nudie uses ecological alternatives, like potato starch and pre-reduced indigo, in place of chemical substances that damage the environment.

Natural Indigo Dye

Indigo is the color of jeans. The fading and oxidization of indigo on the surface of denim fabric is what makes each pair of jeans unique and beautiful. During the production of synthetic indigo dye, chemical reducing agents (e.g. hydrosulfite) are added. The production of natural indigo dye excludes the use of chemical substances, and has an epic history dating back to ancient Egypt. Exhausted natural dye from dye-baths can be biodegraded in simple waste disposal systems. Hence, natural dyes will not add to the pollution load that is being inflicted upon the environment by the synthetic dye industry. Kicking Mule Workshop recognizes the environmental advantages and historical relevance to using natural indigo dyes in the production of their jeans.

Activist Apparel

Apolis Activism is an independent luxury brand began by three brothers - Raan, Shea and Stenn Parton. The brothers have created a unique bridge between commerce and sustainable relief, and along the way they developed a voice for an evolving culture. Through their travels they discovered stories of struggle and survival from visionaries and activists for change. These experiences shaped their perspective and brand, resulting in a union of ideal and action. They anchored this vision to the word Apolis, which translates as a citizen of no country. Where there are no flags and no borders, humanity becomes our common cause and greatest priority. Each garment is embroidered with a trademark red stitch symbolizing the first-aid emblem and reflects the brothers' commitment to humanity and charity, woven deeply into the brand.
