Chicago's Oak Street Bootmakers and Context bring you this exclusive boot bench made in the USA of Genuine Horween Natural Shell Cordovan.
All Oak Street shoes and boots are handcrafted in the USA by shoemakers with over 20 years of experience. The highest standards of production are employed to yield shoes that are as durable as they are comfortable. Each pair makes use of replaceable outsoles, a feature normally reserved for formal footwear, to ensure a lifetime of wear.
Genuine Shell Cordovan is the art of tanning at its finest. It is a very specific leather, from a particular part of a horsehide. The shells are tanned, stuffed, shaved, and then polished – a process taking at least six months. Each shell is steeped in vegetable liquors. The shells are genuine hot stuffed then slicked onto glass frames to dry. Each shell is hand curried and shaved by skilled artisans to expose the shell. Dyes are hand rubbed on for a deep aniline finish. Finally, the shells are hand glazed to achieve the rich, glossy look and feel prized by fine craftsmen.
No leather ages as beautifully as genuine Horween shell cordovan, and no shell cordovan color highlights this as well as natural. With proper care, these boots will gain character and become more beautiful with each year of wear.
For care and maintenance of natural shell cordovan Context recommends Venetian Cream. Oak Street Bootmakers uses it in the finishing process, and it is the product Horween Leather recommends for the care of their genuine Shell Cordovan.
Footwear is rarely, if ever, offered in "Natural" color shell cordovan. This initial offering of our Natural Shell Cordovan Trench Boot is limited to only 11 pair.
